I work on the top floor of a 6 story building and it felt like the building was bouncing up and down.
Woke one of my dogs up, which in turn woke us up. And I was out in the garage sanding when the aftershock came, I thought I was dizzy or something. Hope everyone is okay. Dan
Earthquake energy moves as compression, or p-waves through the earth, as well as s-waves, but we don't feel those typically. The stuff we feel on the surface is surface waves, also known as love or raleigh waves. Depending on the type of rock and intensity, I believe they can move 1-5km per second. As a geography major, geology is close to home, I'll ask my prof's tonight.
