my 71 maverick will not crank at all. it just suddenly died on me today for no reason. i replaced the starter and the solenoid as they were not working when advance auto tested them, but it still will not crank.. anyone know what might be wrong?? please help!
Alternator went out, causing dead battery? Bad ignition switch? Bad battery cables? Do the idiot lights in the instrument cluster come on when you turn the key on? Will the head lights turn on?
dummy lights come on, headlights come on, radio has no power, doesnt crank at all..even buzzer when door is opened comes on
sounds like starter switch...It's mounted on top of the steering column. Can get it at any auto parts store, around $17.... Cheap fix...
the battery is fine.. the headlights come on as well as the door lights and the buzzer for the door... i tried to jump it anyways but it isnt working... even after i replaced the solenoid and tried the old screwdriver technique to bypass the solenoid it still wont crank. anyone know where the ignition fuse is at, i havent checked that yet.
You can still have a bad battery and everything will still work. You just not have enough amps to turn the starter. Light may work but thats it. Thats why you need to bring the battery in to have it check. Even jumping will not work to much drain on the batterys. Been there done that.
If when you try to crank the engine when the lights are on, they do not dim at all then you have something wired wrong. The solenoid should at least "CLICK". Are the wires on the right posts? Is the neutral safety switch connected and wired in?
