my maverick will not start... first i replaced the starter and the solenoid, and today the ignition switch as suggested by a few people and it will click from the solenoid but it will not crank or start and i am getting frustrated..what else could it be?? please help!
what condition is the cable in between the soloniod and the starter? got enough juice in the battery?
Bad ground or high resistance in the battery cables. Is your battery fully charged???Do you own a simple volt meter or a multi meter???
Battery? That would be the first place to start, whats the voltage while just sitting? and when your cranking it??
ok so i replaced the voltage regulator and checked the solenoid to starter cable and its fine... i had to jump it though because the battery was dead and it clicked at the solenoid and then stopped and then there was no power so im thinking of replacing the battery and go from there.. if its not that then i dk what else it possibly could be.
with me...as said earlier...i start with the battery...you can blow new parts with a weak or bad battery...then you start chasing your tail. jumping a bad battery is not a good thing. JMO ...Frank...
ok so i replaced the battery and the voltage regulator as well.. now it will click at the solenoid for a few seconds and then stop and all the lights and power will all shut off and not come back on at all... any ideas?
Sounds like the starter to me. Take it to an Autozone or a place that will check it out and see if it is drawing too much current.....or is shorted.
so i replaced the battery and now after i try to crank the solenoid clicks and then all the power is gone.. i swapped the voltage regulator yesterday and am thinking maybe they sold me a faulty one.. could that be causing the problem??
The voltage regulator controls the charging of the battery. It will not prevent the car from cranking. Inspect all the battery cables carefully and look for corrosion wicking up the cable. Also make sure you have a good grounds to the body as well as the engine block from the negative side of the battery.
Any time you know you have a hot battery and the headlights go off when you hit the key... you have a bad connection. Turn the headlight switch on and grab the cables right before it goes into your lead battery terminal and wiggle it around. If you see sparks or if your headlights pop on you found your problem. If they don't come on, start checking the other end of the cables where they connect the same way. I'm betting this to be your problem!
