    Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and the Mavrick/Comet.

My dad owns a '72 Comet that is powder blue with a white hardtop. The car is currently a 302/C4 & stock rear gear car as described in my sig. below.

    Here is the game plan:

Changing out the worn 302 for a fresh 351W. Upgrading the stock cam to a Crane 204/216 cam. Summit stage 2 dual plane intake manifold & Holly 4160 600cfm carb. The car currently has a 2.25" dual exhaust, H-pipe, and Flowmaster super 40's.

We are looking for header options but, clearance looks very tight. I would like to hear from other members on what has worked for them as far as headers go.

    Thank you,
    Mark P.

sounds like a good plan. ive heard some bad stories about those summit intakes though. the words "cheap china crap that dont fit" have been thrown around. noching out the shock towers for clearence is a good idea if your going 351W, tho ive seen car runW's with headers with stock towers

I know a couple on here run W's and headers....notching the shock towers is a good idea.

If you already have the 351W I would notch the shock towers. If you don't have it yet i would stroke the 302 to 331 or 347 and leave the towers alone. Hooker 6901 headers are good, some have used the Hedmans. I had a 351W in my 71 Maverick and did not notch the towers. I never changed plugs unless I had the engine out. I still have the headers but they don't have any markings on them to tell what brand they are. I believe Tubular makes headers to fit a Mav/Comet. I haven't heard anything good about the Summit manifolds. :)

Thanks for the info... The 351W should arrive today. We ordered the 351w based on a 69 model year so we could get the better heads. (the ones with 18mm spark plugs) I hope the Summit intake works out. It wasn't my first choice but, I'm not the one forking over the $$$ for the parts. Does anyone happen to have any pics of thier notched shock towers?

there are several pics in the gallerey, search the subject and i think you will find some discussions with pics. also GRabber71 has a 351 in his without shaved so you may want to look at what headers and setup he has?
