I just one won my second points race at Infineon, but the final round was a gift. My opponet red lit giving me the win. During the las t run i had problems in second gear. It was almost as if my car died. I have been told that i would most likely only have to do a second gear bend adjustment. the book made it sound easy, but i wanted to get advice from people who have done it before.....is there any special tools i need?
yes second still works...... i went threw and made some adjustments to the linkage i took it out on the back roads everything seem to be fine.....i got another race tomorrow so i guess that is the real test...i am going to wait to do the band adjustment to see if adjusting the linkage solved my problem. Basically when i shifted to 2nd it felt like the brakes engaged causing the car to slow down obviously. after talking to a few more people they thought it may just be getting stuck in two gears or between them so hopefully the linkage adjustments does the trick
Had the same problem many years ago on our race mav, using a 302 and similiar spec's as yours. Was using a stock valve body and cheap brand type F fluid. After many week's of fried clutches etc, bought a manual VB and put in Castrol type F. No more problem, also went to a PA servo whick is still in one of our drag cars today. The Burly 4x4 VB modification #4, has worked just as well in other tranny's I have built. along with a "H" servo. At high rpm, the tranny shifts to 2nd and seems to try to apply reverse at the same time. The two work against each other and feels as if you hauled on the brakes. Usually burned up frictions and steel clutches in the process. Also determined that the cheaper fluid was foaming so much, it starved the lubrication and pressure's as well. Just my experience with our first c4 use. Congrats on your wins, keep up the good work.
I am using the Burly 4X4 Stage 4 modifications, and have been very happy with it. Luckily, I downloaded the entire web page before Burly went off line to keep as instructions for when I did it, so we have it saved here with most of the pictures. I modified a couple pictures to take care of the ones I lost... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=35482&highlight=homemade+shift+kit
