Well, what kind of transmission and shifter do you have?
the C4 with a column shift is at the base (bottom) of the column, The C4 with a factory floor shift os on the transmission and the 3 spd manual with a column shift is either on the column or the transmission, and the manual 3 spd with a floor shift is on the transmission.
I hope that my memory is right but that is what I remember.

The 3 speed manuals were all on the column. The floor shifted ones had an arm that came from the reverse/first arm on the transmission, up to the base of the column. It rotated the collar that normally would have rotated with the column shift. To get your key out, you had to put it in reverse also. I believe the floor shifted automatics were the same way. Since the 69.5 did not have a locking column, if you could get a floor shift, it was probably the last of the transmission mounted switches.

Thanks for the correction Mavaholic - I should know better than to trust my memory at my age. There is just too much in there to access properly.
