I live in a small town, less than 3000.

We have some lads that made a really fun “toy”. No one in authority has seen it yet, but I speculate that it is some form of a dandy slingshot that can be easily shot from a car. It shoots hand-sized rocks accurately and much harder than can be done by hand.

A few weeks ago they took out the plate glass window above the high school front door and it went through the inside glass door after that. The front door is a good 30 yards from the street. A week later they took out classroom window at the junior high. I have seen holes in some closed businesses on a side street.

    Then it got personal.

On the first Thursday of the summer between 9 and 9:30 am, they took out the back windshield of my wife’s minivan. The glass was completely shattered and the rock was just behind the front seat. (There went $450!) We called the police and were told we were number 4 that morning. They had also center-punched one through an elderly neighbors spare bedroom window. It was shot hard enough to put a hole in the sheetrock on the far side of the room.

Everybody knows just about everybody else, so it’s only a matter of time before they get caught. Sooner would be better than later.

Two week later they hit me again!!

They got the passenger window of the Maverick.

    It was a big rock.

I went to the wrecking yard that had over a dozen mavericks last ime I was there. They have sent most of them to a crusher.

I did not find any 2 doors that had a passenger door left.

    $289 for a new one.

Does anyone know if a window from any other Ford will work (besides the maverick and comet)? I saw several similar vintage mustangs and such.

Hope they catch them. Then line them up against a concrete wall and use their own device to catapult rocks at them.

    That is truly heinous.
They won't get away with it for long in such a small town. I feel bad for their parents when they get caught.

How hard are the police looking? When some one gets hurt it will become serious.

That sucks! Really irks me when I hear about people going around and pointlessly damaging other people's property like that.

This has been going on a couple of months, a bit longer than you'd figure. I was talking to a "good" kid at the grocery store and he didn't know this was still happening. Apparently the perps are good at not talking out of their circle.

I suspect a good ass kicking hasn't taken place on the local "kids" there in a while. We had a similar rash of "things" happening around my neighboorhood a couple years back. We (a buddy and myself) did a overnighter in the drive and caught the "supposed" kids. Turns out they were both 18+, (grown "kids") needless to say a swift and just ass kickin was served up that night and the burbs around here have been very quiet every since.

I'm not saying that I'm an advocate of violence, but in this case it was warrented and actually solved the issue for this neighboorhood. The police weren't much help at all, and honestly with the way these punks think today. That would of been "snitchin" and given them more reason to strike again. They know now that they better not come round here with that bull_ _ _ _ again.

    That sucks ...

In a small town, it is just a matter of time before they get caught. Sounds like they have done enough damage to do a short jail stint. If they kept a lid on who it is this long, I imagine it is a very small group involved.

Another possibility on the weapon is an air-powered cannon. It doesn't take much to make a potato launcher ... this would just be a step up. Wouldn't travel as easily as a slingshot though. It would need a pretty good sized reserve tank, but that might be a clue too.
