I just bought 2 rolls of the Peel & Seal at Lowes for my floor also. It has an aluminum foil backing with a rubberized asphalt and polymer layer. It is self stick and is about the thickness of the original sound and heat mat.

This product does come in other larger widths but Lowes only carries the 6" x 25' roll. With the felt backing on the carpeting, this will be a nice pad and insulation.

Here is an article I had found on the internet about sound proof materials. It compares prices, durability etc of several brands. I am a ways off to sound proofing my car but it is always helpful to see what others are using as this turnip is bleeding me dry.

I forgot to ask. For those of you who have tried and used the roofing stuff does it smell like tar when it gets hot? I live in the desert and it can get hot. Just asking because I have read a couple of places that this could happen.

    Thanks,
    Joe

I skimmed the site, lot's of good info. I will go back and read it completely when I get time. Peel & Seal and like products didn't fair so well in the durability tests.

Oh wow, I just read the "sound deadener showdown" web site, and being an engineer, am quite convinced that the "peel and seal" stuff is NOT the way to go. I will be spending more money, but I think it's worth it.....:thumbs2:

i started reading it...this was on the first page...

"This is not laboratory level testing. I make no claims of precision at all. I also made no attempt to determine the relative effectiveness of the products when properly installed."

    so his opinion means what...

i've had mine in a few weeks of 90+ degrees. i have not noticed any...odd...smell.
when i get back from...Gathering/Roundup...i will check under the carpt and see if it has fallen off... :rofl2:

I will install mine here in Phoenix in a week or so. If it survives here, it will survive anywhere.
