I gave $800 for my 72 grabber, and what it looks like in the pics is how I brought her home

The white Comet below was purchased in 1980 for $550. It was a 302/3 speed-floor shift/bench seat car and the only option was the radio. It had 60K miles. The dash pad was coming off in handfuls even though the car was only 9 years old at the time. It also looked like it had been in 4 accidents after I stripped a lot of paint off of it, but it was solid. It always pulled slightly to the left until the 5th accident that landed it on a frame machine for 3 hours. It met an ugly end wrapped around a tree 2 weeks after I sold it.

The green Comet was purchased for $1600 in 1992. I am the second owner. It came as a 302/C4/air/PS/ bench seat car with 70K miles. It now has 160K on the clock, and has a 351, no air or PS, but it does have bucket seats and a floor shift now. It served as my daily driver for 6 years or so. It is currently getting uglier so that it can shine again. ;)

well i dont count parts cars, but my latest car cost me $200. it's my '71 2dr, 302, C4, P/S, A/C, Grabber blue, painted white top, and black interior. it cost me more in fuel to go get this car than what i paid for it (it was located in Memphis, TN.) it's also the same car in my signature (y)

my parents bought a new home and lo and behold my baby was sitting in the back pasture next to the barn. pretty straight, cream color, 200 that needed a starter battery and solenoid. Now it runs :D although it is currently under massive construction :thumbs2:

Bought the 75' for 175 and the guy said it only needed a fuel pump, turns out it needed that plus a new carb and brakes so, after all said and done cost around 650.

Black 70' got for 450 and so far have put about 300 in new parts under the hood and she still don't run yet :(

All told around 1400 for the pair of Mav's

I got my first 71 grabber 6cyl. 3 on the tree from a car lot. I wrecked my 68 Pontiac and ins. gave me a draft for 300.00 at 18 years old found out quick what a draft was and it was not a check. 30 years later got my 2nd grabber 302 auto, paid to much but love it anyway. soon to look like the 71 I wish I still had.

This thread goes back quite a ways...

My parents bought my 73 Grabber for me for $650 when I was 17. My dad was sure nervous about giving a sporty-looking 2dr with a 302/V8 with way too much torque to a teenager... I almost ended up with a Volvo... About a year after though that I had to plunk down almost $600 to rebuild the tranny, so maybe I should have listened to him on the torque thing... :burnout: That was quite a bit for a teenager making minimum wage part time to pay off...

And that was, let's see... 22 years ago.

Looking at the prices others paid, guess I paid to much..:(..at $6000 (just kidding it was an awesome deal as I could have made a $2500 profit the first show I went to by a guy that was kicking himself for not buying it earlier when he saw it for $8500) but it would take twice the $6000 to get it from me now...:yahoo:...Completely restored 1972 Comet GT, 302 with lots of chrome, Auto with B&M Shifter.

my 74 grabber clone was FREE!!!!!!:bananamanthe good friend who gave me the car has a mint 70 mav that had been in storage since the 80s he took the front clip off mine
and gave me the rest! when i pulled up the sound deadenr off the floor he and i was shocked to find a perfectly solid floor, torq boxes and even rear qwarters!it has a correct 73 bumper conversion.the only problem with it is it was painted brown with a roller! so i have to scrape all that off this winter.it is currently still in my buddys garage and the int is stripped out exsept for mint head liner and dash.and im taking all of the fiddley bits out from the engine bay,302 mounts, washer bottle, and selinoyd
stuff.it will be painted buy next year! and hopfully driving next summer!im working on it every week i can get out to his house.but i have to put it some where in the next two weeks and i havent found a place yet?
