I might get blasted for this :D but here goes.

My friend told me that Mavericks and Mustangs along with Falcons were the same chasis with different sheet metal. How true is this?

    Thanks for any input.

No need for blasting. That's mostly true, both are unit-body construction, they're not exactly the same though. The front suspension is shared with 71-73 Mustangs, if you're looking for upgraded components. The rear suspension layouts are similar but I believe spring lengths are different (someone else can probably give you exact lengths). Although rear-ends will swap (the axle lengths differ), but spring perches are the same spacing.

Mustangs/falcons/cougars 64 to 69/70 share a common platform. The maverick allthough following the same engineering/structural concept as mustangs is NOT the same platform.Mavs/comets share a designe with the others but have narrower floorpans/different shock towers different frame rails etc...The common component is the front suspension designe/geometry/function but the parts differ here also(not interchangeable for the most part)So,your friend is incorrect, they are similar platforms but not the same.

Maverick suspension is pretty much the same as 68-73 Mustang, other than the coils, Big Block Mustangs had some pretty beefy coils compared to a Maverick, but you can interchange them, I have 70 Mustang coils in my 73 Maverick. Rear leaf springs are different.
There are quite a few Mustang parts that cross over to Mavericks, along with all Fords of the same years (do some searching and you'll find things like bucket seat frames, window cranks, steering wheels, etc.).
Sheet metal is all Maverick. Tailights were shared with the Pinto, but the Maverick came first.
    Any other questions ask.

Ok the car that I am picking up this weekend is a '74 with a 351. It does not have the braces from the shock tower to the firewall. I was told that is should really put it on and fast. My friend has some of thes braces laying around because he has 5 Mustangs. So what you guys are saying is this will not fit?

Shock tower braces are Maverick and Comet only. I have an extra RH side one if you can come up with a LH side you can have it.

Can you get pics? It's possible someone put a Mustang II suspension in it to get that 351 to fit.

If you do need shock tower braces, I think I can score you a LH side. (y)
