Eaton is detroit locker they bought them a couple of years ago... the name "Detroit locker" is being used like "Kleenex", it's actually a brand name, not a generic term....If you cant beat them buy them..... http://www.eaton.com/EatonCom/Produ...roducts/Differentials/DetroitLocker/index.htm they are considered a soft locker because they allow more give around corners and don't hit as hard as a "Detroit" geared locker but they are the same principal.
i havent seen a gear set with those markings on them. was that put togther a long time ago or recently? it doesnt look like one but i wonder if its a cup and cone desgine like a auburn.
Don't know the history but I may be able to find out and get back to you. It seems that Auburn was mentioned but, as you said, looks nothing like what Auburn sells. The tapered carrier doesn't leave much room. Many thanks for the feedback.
Mystery Solved... I'm away from home on business so can't pull it apart but I did get in contact with the guy I bought it from and he sent this link to eBay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0288536325&category0=&fvi=1&item=150288536325 I also found... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...22&_nd1=&_fromfsb=1&_trksid=m270.l1313&_fvi=1 Plus, after pulling my head from my butt I went back to the Auburn Gear website and found... http://www.auburngear.com/aftermarket/product_details.aspx?SKU=Ford%209,%2010%20Bolt&ReturnURL=/aftermarket/product_listing.aspx?Category=177c81e2-c480-4a6a-9137-2f095fce82a5&page=1&pagesize=10000&text=&EPCString1=&EPCString2=&EPCString3= What did not help was that all the places I looked used the same more common style picture for ALL the Auburn differentials... Thanks again for your help.
Did you hear the "POP"..LOL... Let us know how good it works I have heard good things about the Auburns but have never run them.
that doesnt look like a auburn to me. it could be but the pics dont match in my opinion. auburns are great posi's. they usually have a higher brake away point than clutch type posi's. they are realy sensitive to bent housings wich seem to pretty commen. if the housing is bent the axles go in to the posi at a angle and that cocks the cone side ways in the carrier and they wear out really quicly. the last thing about auburns are they are not rebuildable. when they wear out they are done.
I believe the differential in the first pic below is what is commonly thought of as an Auburn... even places like Jegs use it as the picture of that style for all Auburn differentials... which is wrong in some cases. That's why I had trouble finding it. The second pic is from the link I provided for Auburn website. Looks like the one I have. 542043, Pro Series for 28 tooth axle splines 542036, Pro Series for 31 tooth axle splines Applications: All Ford products with 8 3/4” & 9” ring gear Thoughts?
im not seeing the same windows on your pics that the auburn pics show. and your case looks like its a billet machined case where the auburn is cast. i would still like to see what is on the inside.
9'' i d I know its a couple of years old , but what did ever find out about the rear with the V4 6 215 #s I have one that has V4 07 215 and I never seen one like it. was it some kind of posi
I think it's a Auburn Posi... I have one in set up in my car that looks identical. Have not tried it out yet due to currently setting up rear disc brakes.
aurburn posi thanks for the info . instlled mine and have put about a 100 miles on it , so far its ok makes a little noise when turning, I hope thats just because of the lack of clutches ,like a trac-lok would have.
