I found a 1988 Mustang HO 5.0 for sale. The engine has polished intake and valve covers. It comes with the complete AOD attached, and everything runs very well and is really clean. Also included is the complete wiring harness and the computer. All accessories are included as well. How much would this be worth - the guy wants an offer? Thanks for your input. -Corbin P.S. This wouldn't be for my car, but a future project I haven't found yet. I want to find a 71-72 Grabber to modify to my tastes.... Shelby taillights, a little taller rear spoiler, 4 wheel discs, EFI, AOD, suspension mods, steering mods (need to tighten up that old steering...Not sure how to do this yet, but I am working on it...Maybe a MII in the future), Cobra R wheels, lowered, .... Anyone know of a Grabber around here for sale? Prefer a project car as long as it is not too gone in the rust/body damage area. This car, if I find it would be a project for a long time, as comming up I will have almost no free time. I am starting at Cal Poly next year for my BS in Civil Engineering so my time will be limited to summers basically as the car will be at home - as will my Maverick......
hey, hey, hey now! I need that drivetrain for MY 71 Grabber project. I haven't built the motor yet so you're not too late!
I bought a complete and running 93 LX with a 5.0 and 5 speed. It is hit in the left front corner hard enough to be totaled but is still drivable. I picked it up for $2500 and have made back $1000 so far selling the rear, wheels, and interior parts.
I bought an 88 GT a couple of years ago for a $1000. It was a running driving 5 speed car. just needed the rad support replaced. A couple of months after that i bought a clean 87 LX. 5 speed car. That thing just needed some work for inspection but i picked that one up for $900 and it was pretty nice. I also bought a 85 GT 5 speed car for $650. I dont think i would pay more than 300 or so for a motor and auto tranny when you can pick up a whole car for not much more.
Good luck at Poly Corbin. Maybe I'll see you around campus . One piece of advice, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Two thirds of my dorm from my freshman year no longer goes to poly, mainly due to that reason. Course, it's also the reason why I'm probably gonna be 50 by the time I get out of here. Oh, one other piece of advice, don't live in the engineering dorm. I would recommend the Sierra Madre dorms or another dorm besides the engineering dorm (I don't think you can control whether or not you go to the other red bricks, it was sort of an overflow thing when I was a freshman).
I was quoted a price of $500 for an HO motor out of a lincoln. It came with the tranny and harness but the tranny was shot ... Civil Eng. Huh Corbin ? Cool ... Check out my last project ... We finished it up the first of the year. http://www.dot.state.ga.us/specialsubjects/17thstreetbridge/photogallery2.shtml
I paid $500 for a 90 mustang cop car 5.0. with 70k miles. It still runs great in my '86 GT 5+ yrs later. With the harnesses and the AOD tranny in good cond. they should fetch around $700-750 for everything and be a still be a decent buy. But do what I do and make an offer that you are comfortable with and if he doesn't bite then leave your name and Phone# and they usually call you back a few days later when they can't unload it. Got my Mav for $150 bucks that way. Supply and demand.
Thanks for the info guys! Wow, that is one sweet project, Tony! How long did it take you to construct it? Very impressive, indeed.... By the way, I got your email about recieving the part. Did you get mine? Thanks for the advice, 427. I'll keep that in mind. I heard that the Sierra Madre was pretty loud and distracting with all the different majors and all and that the Tenaya (Civil Engineering dorm) was a quiter place. What do you think? I don't know. How much longer are you going to be there? Good to talk to you - and, yeah, hopefully I will see you around, but I am not bringing my Mav so I will pretty much blend in. I'll keep an eye out for your Mav - it's blue, right? By the way, are there other Mavs in town? I saw an all original condition Grabber when I visited in the summer. -Corbin
My mav's back home, I'm in the same boat as you. I work on it when I go back home and that's about it. My driver is a 91 Supra Turbo. Anyways, about the dorms, I lived in Tenaya when I was a freshman. Tenaya isn't just civil engineering, it's a dorm for all engineering students of all different disciplines. There was sort of a mix of people in the dorm, about half of them never left their rooms, and the other half did. It wasn't all that quiet and you're likely to have the same distractions. If I could do it over again, I would have lived in Sierra Madre. Each tower has a little living room type thing, and the whole tower gets to know each other pretty well. It's just a lot more fun living over there, plus the rooms are cooler, check em both out when you come for open house next month. Another point is that there is like a 3:1 guy to girl ratio in Tenaya. This is college, you can do better than that, go Sierra Madre . There will be plenty of engineers living there and you'll make plenty of friends in your classes, don't worry about that. Engineering is Cal Poly's bread and butter, you'll find engineers everywhere.
