Hi: I just found the dealers card for the 1972 Maverick Grabber that I purchased in 1972. I think that it has the VIN on it. There is an 11 digit item that starts with a U or a V. (handwritten) I know that I am on either a very short term project or a long term project. Where could I check to see if this is the VIN and if the vehicle can be found. I realize that this might sound crazy. Unfortunately thirty years ago it was the Mav or the wife. She won. Would appreciate any information. Thanks. Deke
The VIN for a '72 Grabber would start with a 2. It is an 11 digit number. If it is the VIN, the only numbers I can tell you for sure is that the first digit will be a 2 and the third and fourth will be 93. So the VIN will be like 2*93*******, the stars representing characters specific to your car. To take a further stab at it, the second digit after the 2 will likely be either a K or X, those were the most common. K is Kansas City, MO assembly plant, X is St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada. There are other plants (F = Dearborn, MI, W = Wayne, MI) but they are less common then K and X. The fifth digit after 93 will definitely be either U, T, L or F, depending on what engine your car came with. U = 170 I6, T = 200 I6, L = 250 I6, and F = 302 V8. The last 6 numbers of the VIN are your car's consecutive unit number. So if you had a factory 302 '72 Grabber built at Kansas City, the VIN will start with 2K93F, and then the last 6 numbers.
Thanks, I now know that I had a 302 Grabber built in Kansas City. Now I am going to start looking to see if there is any way to track what eventually happened to this vehicle. Deke
Sad but True on occasion Still got the wife, would rather have the Mav on occasions. Until then I am limited to building Maverick models and collecting Maverick items. Deke
