I'm about to replace my alternator, I noticed on the autozone website that there is an alternator for $28.99 and it is the 61amp Valucraft 7078DP. It is for cars with A/C. Then there is a 61amp Valucraft 7078 for $18.99. It's for cars without A/C. My A/C system has been ripped out and I never plan on putting it back. My question is, is there a difference between the two alternators? If I buy the one for the non A/C car will it still fit perfectly like the A/C one would? Or is the bracket or belt different or something?
I believe the bracketry is the same and either will bolt up no problem. The difference between the stock A/C alts and the no A/C alts is the voltage. The A/C cars have higher voltage draw when the A/C is running and need the "bigger" alternator to keep the battery charged. -Corbin
Corb, there is even an easier way. The LED voltage display. Learn to interpet what it shows and you can see a bad battery, poor connections, alternator charge rate and recovery after starting. Same as a volt meter but easier to quickly understand, than a needle, after you get use to it.
m.s.b., i went with a 100 amp. one wire when i did the v8 swap. that covered my elect. upgrades( headlights, cd player and amp.)it was a direct swap. j.m.o....frank...:bananaman :bananaman p.s. not a clue what bluegrass is talking about.
yeah but all I see on the auto parts websites is 61 amp alternators. I want to make sure and get one that fits right in, I don't want to have to modify anything or fabricate any brackets.
Max; I put a 61 amp alt in my car, and it fits right in, whether it be a 6cyl or v8. There are no mods to make, no electrical diffs. It was made for the car. Good luck! Earl
Me tinks Bluegrass was replying to Corbins post about Voltmeters...he's just in the wrong thread...been there done that. Go with the Voltmeter Corb...hehe
