There is a local guy around here who has a 73 Mav with a 460 and still has the stock location shock towers. They have been severly shaved. He did a very neat job,and no room for headers just cast manifolds but it can be done.Whish i could track him down to get some pics.

Let me start off by stating that this is JMO, and I have developed it by observation of different cars over time, and I am not a racer.

It seems to be that you can do much better with a stroked small block in these cars than a big block, unless you are going tube chassis. While there a few BB cars that might be fast, these small cars just don't like the nose weight. It is the same with the fox body mustangs. While there are a few fast BB mustangs the are SB cars going faster. I'm only talking about "stock" style suspesion. Tube chassis, all bets are off. And when you think about the cost of the 2 it is also better to go SB.

    Again, JMO.

The kit I installed in my car was made just for a maverick. But depending on what you are looking to do with it and what kind of $ you are looking to spend makes a difference.
I'm not gonna say that a stroked small block is not the way to go for quick et's and high rpm's but I like to be a little different. I am on a low budget and not really a big fan of high speeds.(more of a burnout guy) and to try and get the kind of hp and torque that I was looking for was gonna cost allot more $ not to say that it can't be done but once again this is just my opinion.
Right now I have approx $1,500.00 in my engine and I am in the 400 - 450 hp range and like razorsharp said my car doesn't like the nose weight so the next addition is gonna be aluminum heads.

So dare to be different,go drag racing, or just for show it's all up to you and this was just my opinion.

P.s. The sound that this 3 inch exhaust from this monster puts out is hard to duplicate and turns heads everywhere. So long as you have fun is what matters most.

I would agree with you maverick468, if you are looking for show then it would be a good choice, you ought to be able to smoke for a mile with that nose weight and that torque but...It will not handle very good, harder to stop. It all depends on what you are looking to do with your car.:Handshake

Which is cheaper... a 460 Lima block, or a 460 Windsor block?
    Easy choice.

For stopping, anyone would want at least 2 disc brakes on it, if not all 4.
For weight, I bet you could put some good used aluminum heads on that Lima block and still have far less money in the engine over a stroker Windsor.

And, if you just hafta spend the dough on a stroker crank, wouldn't you rather have 500-600 cubes, rather than 400-460? :D
