If I had my choice between a new Ford Modular engine and a Chevy LS series engine. I will take the Chevy everytime. Im a Ford guy but the Chevy engine is a much better engine IMO.

You are probably right about the chevy engine. I won't lie, I don't really know a thing about those chevy's, and in the end either way you will have a really cool ride. Oh, and those people that will say WHY'D YOU DO IT, are probably just really jealous. Can't wait to see the pics.

Hey, if you want to get Mavericky (to quote Sarah) with LSx parts, put LS6 heads on a 347!

Don't laugh. It has been done!
LSx heads will bolt to and function on a 302/351w block with relatively minimal mods.
I'll have to find the link to the folks that are doing this. It's pretty amazing how well they fit the SBF.

Starting out I want 400 to the ground. Eventually, I don't know... I've heard you can tool those things up to 700. 650 would probably be my goal.

    your missing his question ;)
You can have 1,000 ponies under the hood; but "how" do you plan to get it to the ground?

650 horse with stock suspension would be unsafe, dangerous, unlikely to survive and flat out scary :D

    1 more edit:

Can I say that your mav is hands down my favorite on this site?? :D :D :D Yours and Derek Yees. You guys motivated me to finish my project cause they are so HOTT!

I just went with the prices on Summit, the crate is I believe around $9800 (this is the crate with EFI and some aftermarket components, as I am already tired of carbs and want EFI). This is turn key, so all I'd need is exaust. The similar crate LS, rated at the same HP (with EFI and completely stock components) is about 6000.

Small block Chevy bell housings will bolt to an LS series block(you just wont use the top right bell housing bolt)I am a bit of a purist when it comes to what engine in what car.
That said:lets remeber that hot rodders(which we are) were putting SBCs' in 32 fords long before some of us were borne.Cadillac engines in studebakers/olds engines in 41 willys,Buick nail heads in whatever it would fit in...ETC...Do what you want.Just make sure it will stop as well as it goes or your done...

Ha! Yeah I got the question now  Well that's just the fun part! I've been DROOLING over TCPs front coilover package since I bought my first Mav a few years back. Then we'd just have to go 5-link in the rear, subframe connectors, DEFINITELY need a roll cage with five point harnesses, and Baer brakes at all four corners, just to get a start.

To be honest, what money I save (if I do in fact end up saving money) on the engine would immediately go right back into suspension/brakes/etc. So really, it does boil down to just time and money. I just thought I could save some bucks and end up with a better, faster, lighter engine. I will simply say that my ability to do this project directly hinges on my ability to stay single.

And I hate to say I like a Chevy product, because Chevy is, of course, Satan, but yeah the LS series is better than the modular Ford

Nice dude!! Looks great! I had no idea someone was trying this idea out. Hopefully you can iron the wrinkles out so I don't have to pull out as much of my hair :yahoo:

    I'll have to find it.
A huge part of the LSx success is the top end.
The TB is right where our distributor is... but the LSx uses the 351w firing order. A 351 cam in a 347 with an LSx top end and coil packs... sounds cool as heck to me. No need for a distributor if the FO is the same.

Like I said, it's been probably 3 years since this topic was discussed and I looked at the individual project websites, so it'll take some digging.

I can't remember if the tech discussion was on this board or Stangnet.
    Probably Stangnet.

I've actually heard some whispers about this too... I'd love to see it myself as well.
