Does anyone have a description or illustration of where the bolts are on a 76 maverick alternator? I can't seem to figure out what's still holding it on, the only bolt I could even find was on the front of the alternator bracket. A scan from a chilton's or haynes manual would also be nice.

    alternator bolts

there is a long bolt that threads into the head, takes a 5/8 wrench and one on the bottom that goes into the slide bracket, it takes a 9/16 or 1/2 socket can't remember? should be it except the wires

yes I know about the one on the slide bracket, but where is the long bolt you told me about? That's the one I can't find, and the ground is kinda muddy in my yard and I don't feel like lying in it to get under the car to find it.

the other bolt should be straight across from the one in the slide bracket, it is usally mounted in the cylinder head.

I can't find the last bolt you're talking about. Can you point it out or explain where it's at?

    Should be right down there:

The alternator will pivot on it to make adjustments.

Is that what you're talking about? Mine doesn't have a nut on it, just a bolt sticking out right there. And after loosening the first two bolts it still won't budge an inch, it won't pivot, shake, wobble, anything...it's still very very well attached to the car.

Please I really need to know what to do to get this thing out because it's starting to get dark and I need to get this done today.

I think I found the two bolts that are holding the alternator in place. Please tell me these are the only ones holding it on other than what's on the front.

The one on the left of your last pic is the backside of the one Dennis pointed out. The one on the right is the backside of the slide. With those 2 out and the wires removed you should be able to walk away with it.

I was reading down thru the post and I was thinking: "Back Side....Back Side!!!" I couldn't wait to post and give you the answer.....but alas....I am too late...you found it.

That last one is a fun one to remove. The 6 cyl AC cars have the alternator in the hardest place to reach.

One more question. My old alternator had only three prongs (BAT, GRND, FLD) but the one I just got has (BAT, GRND, FLD, STA) Why are they different? Does it matter that the alternator I got is for a non a/c car and mine is equipped with A/C (but the compressor has been removed and the A/C doesn't work)?

If for some reason you need an Alternator for that car...I have a brand new one I removed from one of my parts cars. $5 plus shipping (kind of heavy) and it's yours.
