Ok, thanks everyone for the help. I will try to zip-loc bag everything and see what happens. not sure how i will do that with the carb. Worst case is everything gets wet and soaked with water; what should i expect? once everything dries will I be good to go>

yup.... if u get it wet just dry everything off and/or wait for the carb to dry out (if u get water in it) and it should start back up once everything is dry again

Water getting into the carb is a bad thing. Keep it covered because the water will flow into the intake and any open intake valves. Just a little water can cause hydraulic lock in the engine when you try to turn it over. That can bend connecting rods and break pistons and rings.

I've read that over cleaner will eat aluminum and paint.

Good point,I've always used in on motors OUT of the car.It will get rid of any flaking paint, but I didn't see any damage to the timing cover(aluminum)from the stuff.Could possibly streak/dull polished aluminum though.:tiphat:

It all depends on how long you let the oven cleaner work. All alkylide cleaners can disolve aluminum if left long enough. They also soften and remove paint, rubber and some plastics.
