Cool! Thanks for the info, guys! It looks better on a real car than I thought it would. Nice job with the Photoshop - looks pro!

    Starsky & Hutch

Yeah I saw that in red and white on a 1970's TV show called Starsky & Hutch. Oh wait that was a Torino.

P.S. Are those running boards on a Mav? Now thats something you don't see everyday.

Chuck, if you have a picture of your car, and if it painted, send it to me and I will photoshop it. If not I can search for one on the net.

I know this is an ANCIENT thread... but those stripes are on my car - a 72 Comet. I've been trying to find out where they came from... mine is silver/grey.

    Thanks guys!

Grey tail stripe on a red Comet NOT STARSKY & HUTCHES

    OK... took some shots today.

I really like the stripes... they wrap the car nicely from front to back and both sides... yet I never knew where they came from as they looked as old and original as the paint. Now I know the dealership must have stuck em on as a request... Maverick stripes on a 72 Comet. I've just blacked out the rear end and that adds a whole lot more emphasis with the stripe on the trunk... most comments I get are from people in traffic who were driving behind me and passed by to take a look.

My "next project" will be a bright green Comet... and I want the same stripes in black - since they "add something" to the flat rear trunk without the use of a lip spoiler or the deck spoiler... if you can see in these reduced pics... there is a thin outline all around the bold stripe.

The Buick GSX stripe was thinner, pointy, had a red outline, and crossed over the top of the rear deck spoiler. It looked awesome with those giant stripes over the functional hood scoops.

Students at the University occasionally yell "Starsky & Hutch!...." when I drive by... although THAT was a Fire Red '75 Torino with the stripe running over the roof, and was about 5x thicker.

Most likely A stripe kit made for a dealer promotion. It could have been an additional model approved for production but canceled for some reason. It looks a lot like a Comet GT stripe design. Mabe thats why this design was scraped for Maverick.
