Just joined the forums. My nephew called me on a 72 Mercury Comet GT he found in an old lady's garage. 50K or so original miles, parked in 1978 and hasn't moved since. The lady wants $350 for it. I was thinking about picking it up for a project even though my Fiero project isn't done yet.....
Welcome! Grab the car. Even if the engine is seized up and there is some moderate rust, 350 is a steal! If there is less rust, or the engine can be coaxed to run, then that is just icing on the cake! Good luck Dave
When I was a kid my Dad owned a pest control company. He had a "fleet" of Mavericks that he used for service vehicles for all of his employees. Dad did most all of the work on them himself. Dad also did a lot of "bartering" and at one point ended up with a large quantity of light brown paint (tan) and decided to paint all of the cars (as well a Ranchero he had). From then on, Mom called all of the cars "brown bombs". When one of his friend's kids (older than me) needed a car, Dad came up with a red 72 Grabber with a manual transmission. I remember that car looked brand new. When I got old enough to drive, all of the Mavericks were just about gone.... I am supposed to take a look at it this week. I'll see about getting some pics. I really wanted a Maverick like my Dad picked up for the kid down the street but this Mercury is about as close as I have gotten in 15 years of casual looking....
cool story even if you get the GT for $350 and its decent you could sell it for alot more that that. then you could buy yourself a MAVERICK GRABBER!
RUN LIKE HECK AWAY FROM IT!!! VERY ADDICTING AND NOT SOMETHING YOU WANT!!!!!!! ah where exactly is this with a phone number?? Sounds like a great start to get back into the "brown bombs" hee hee GOOD LUCK n keep us posted! Welcome from Pittsburgh Pa!
I know several folks here will be green with envy if a new guy shows up working on a Comet GT that he got for 350 bux...
I am already in the Arcade Game Collecting and Fiero hobbys.... what is one more? Actually, I am getting less active in the Arcade hobby so this should fill in any spare time I was about to have....
WOW! Get it! I just revived a 75 Maverick that has been sitting since 1976. I have been driving it for two days after just a little work.
to the board. That is one heck of a deal. If you don't want the car, let me know. I'l sell one of my parts cars & purchase the GT....
Grab that car. You can bring it to the Maverick Comet Group Gathering in Joplin in July and to the Maverick Comet Club International Roundup in Hannibal, Mo. the next week. You'll get to see and meet some great Mav/Comet people from all across the country.
New Member.... Maybe Hey, mongo are you going to buy it? If your not could I please get some info on it. Thanks!
