I am and OLD FART i went with EFI 88 5.0 MUSTANG DONNER CAR AOD 3.00 rear gear at 70 mph with a/c on 24 to 26 mpg . I would not go back to a carb at all . The driveability is the best thing the car can sit for a mounth or two i go out turn the key and it will start first . I can drive from see level to 7000 ' with no problem ( no rejetting ) .

I say carb simply for the fact that all you have is truck parts for the EFI. If you had car parts, I would go EFI hands down. EFI is not as complicated as some people make it out to be. If you have the proper scanner, you can pin point a specific problematic sensor in a matter of seconds.

Your going to be limited with the factory EFI set up...Ford setups are pretty forgiving but...If you want to get radicle in the future... The factory EFI is going to be a limiting factor. If you really want to EFI the thing get an aftermarket progammable PCM of some sort.

i voted for carb only because you have the van efi. i would get a car intake, as stated in another post you can get them for cheap if not free. just look around on mustang forums or ask on one. i bet all you will have to pay is shipping. if you get the mustang intake you can use the van computer and wireing. then if you want to up grade down the road you can easly.

i vote carb. heck of alot easier to tune and work on, not that efi systems are hard to understand,, like jamie said if you have the proper equipment it is a whole lot easier to hunt down problems. but for tuneability i vote carb, mainly bc u dont have to have a 1000 dollar+ software to mod the thing stockish or notish but on the other hand its not like your workin with CAN BUS or some other type of multiplex system... lol screw van or truck efi mustang w maf.....def cool

You don't need fuel Inj to get that mileage just a overdrive!
    1991 5.0 carb conversion,performer RPM intake,650 dp,b303 cam,T-5 trans 3.89 gears 65mph on highway, calculated more than once 28 mpg.
Oh and 12.90's at the drags.

The crappy part is that my 64 pick up with a 460 big convertor and 4.56 gears only runs 12.70's and gets 8 MPG.

sorry for lil more bus talk, how bout this, our 10,000$ scanner for work that we just got 3 years ago has just been out dated bc it can hold enough flash files and run properly.....hmmm who knew, dodge can't make a car, or the proper equipment to work on the junk. now.........laptops. that start at like 17k a piece for software and updates. how stupid can u get:rofl2:

Not talking Starscan are you? I dont even use that piece. I dont have that much time. What a terrible piece of equipment. I have a Starmobile and a pc in my bay. Its about as good as it gets. The new wireless system should be interesting. Now we all need laptops with 2gig of ram. People wonder why door rates are high.:hmmm:God I love my Mav.:thumbs2:

I love my mavs Too. One vacuum hose and 4 ground connections....no automobile should be allowed to have 11 ground connections under the hood alone.Sheesh I cant get my boss to upgrade the snap on brick!!! not that it matters its outdated now too.Dont get me started on the lack of info I have at work to work with let alone outdated equipement.I would be thrilled to have something like Star scan in my shop.Would have to make my job easier than it is now.He keeps buying audis and volkwagons with problems and refuses to get european software:rofl2:I love my job:biglaugh:

i like my carbs, but i also like new technology in old cars. my '71 is a stock 1991 5.0 HO motor, with a Weind Action plus intake #8011, Edelbrock 500cfm, MSD ignition and stock manifolds.... all this fed thru a stock T5 and 3.00 gears and 22+ mpg all day long.

with some 3.55 or 3.70 gears and a freshened engine, i look to get 26+..

so like many have mentioned, you dont need a fuelie engine to get good gas mileage, just the right combo
