I have been wondering for awhile a question about paint colour. Did Ford ever paint Mavericks or Comets black other then the Stallions as they were two tone and not JUST black. If back in the 70's you walked into the dealership and ordered a black Maverick or Comet could you get it. I'm pretty sure you could as it is not such a big deal but i have only seen one Comet with black paint and i didn't ask the owner if it was original paint. Does anyone know the answer? Thanks
the guy who gave me the comet this year is a little older than me, he has pics of himself in his black grabber with gold stripes the day he drove it home from the dealership and the day he put 15" slot mags on it. they are kinda old pics but make me drool.
I tried to load a pic of my original 71 Black Grabber but couldn't,bought it in 72 never been touched,at the time my buddy had a twin to it also. They are pretty rare though
Thanks guys for the information, now i know as i always wondered. A black Maverick or Comet from the factory would be very cool.
Its like Henry Ford himself said .."you can have any color you want, As long as its black." my favorite quote of all times
I would love to have seen a Marti Report on that. Factory black with red interior has got to be very uncommon.
In my early days of being a Comet GT owner. I remember a black 73 GT with gold stripes in Woodstock. It pulled up beside my white GT w/black stripes, at the lights. Needless to say I never seen it again but it sure was fun for the 1/4 mile or so...
Yep my 77 is factory black, and the paint is still original. Gottal love a "triple black" maverick. Black paint, interior, and vinyl top.
i agree. sold the car locally and still see it from time to time. kinda wish i had kept it but ya cant have them all
Black 77 About 11 years ago I went to look at 2Mavs for sale up in Ringgold. A yellow 72 grabber and a black with red int 77. Both where 302s and kind of rough but original. It was the only black one I've ever seen in person. The 77 didn't run and the grabber had no brakes and a wicked engine vibration so I ended up passing on both. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20 I guess.
The blue one in my avatar is now black and will be a replica of my 71 black and silver Grabber,I"ll post pics when done in a couple months
I do know a guy that bought a new '70 or '71 Maverick. It was black and the only option was an AM radio. In early '74 I saw a black Grabber with white stripes. It to was new and I have never seen another '74 like it.
