I've got a buddy with a 2008 gt500 that can beat my mav by two car lengths... i want to put some force induction on my carbuerated 331 stroker for a little surprise... does anybody have any ideas on how to run the exhaust and stuff? i know a blower or a rousch supercharger w/ a efi swap would be easier, but id like to do somthing a little more unique. any ideas?

Turbo,s are fine BUT you are looking at a lot of work. First off you must choose a turbo location, Then you will have to deal with the plumbing (Exhaust, Oiling, Intake air) Then you will need a BLOW THRU CARB and these ain't cheap. Then a Blow off valve (whether electronic or mechanical). Some form of timing control ( Which you will need this regardless if turbo, Supercharger, or Nitrous). Mavericks just don't have the room for turbo (s). I gave this much thought. Go with a Blower or nitrous. Personally i like the Blower option ( But i'm biased). Blowers ain't cheap either but i wouldn't trade for either of the other. Nothing like the sound of a blown FORD at wide open throttle. There are several options where you dont have to go EFI to run a supercharger.

someone on here used stock manifolds and just turned them around...so the outlets were facing the front and did all the turbo routing up there...not sure who, but it might be something to look into :thumbs2:

The most important question is; does your 331 use a stock block? What year? The block will be your limiting factor. You can convert a Holley to blow thru on your own quite easily. Talk to blown76mav. He built a bt carb jytt setup and I'm sure he can give you carb tips. Run a single turbo IMHO, to make plumbing easier. I also agree that you can just flip some stock manifolds to point forward and plumb from there.

its a 79 cast iron block, but its a forged bottom end, and i think ive got a good plan for all the plumping, and space is not a problem; my battery is in the trunk and ive got and electric water pump and fan. my dads old truck motor had a paxton supercharger on it with a demon blow-through 650, i can get a hold of that one

Yep, thats the way to go. Affordable and a quick install compared to forced induction.

yea i though alot about that, but to be honest i think nitrous is cheating unless its a full out drag car... the money thing isnt really an issue though i have a good bit saved up to do this job already.

What's the setup on your car? The new stangs are pretty quick but i mean man a good 331 ought to wipe the street up? Maybe you just need some gear or heads?

i used to be a big turbo fan untill i had some actual experience with them. for a street car they suck. the best way to describe it is like this. dealing with turbo lag sucks. ok so you have the stock motors horsepower say 331hp (1hp per cubic inch) untill the turbo spools up then you have 500 hp. there is no horsepower accessable between the 331 hp and 500 hp unless you use expensive boost controlers. now for dragracing this is fine but on the street its no fun. its alot like having nitrous with it being a on off deal but with nitrous you have direct controle of when it comes on. with turbo you have the lag wich can be inconsistant.
i say put that blow threw carb and supercharger on and go kick the gt500 ass!!!
as for nitrous being cheating, show me the rule book that says its cheating. if your racing in a class that doesnt allow it and use it thats cheating. i do respect a car that beats power adder cars on all motor. but as for nitrous beeing cheating i dont see it.

Properly sized turbos arent bad regarding lag. I had twin T3s on a 5.0 and they spooled as soon as you mashed the gas. By 2500 they were all in. Not a roots blower, but I wouldnt call them laggy either. Our V8s make enough torque to make lag a non-issue for most turbos. I had more issues with a non-existant tune and killing head gaskets than I did with turbo lag :D
