The fuel pump did the trick, gas mileage is better, idle is better after adjusting the carb and now there is no hesitation when I accelerate. It drove like a dream on the way to work this morning.

I think.... Maybe.... I possibly... It could happen.... It might be.... fixed.

Ill crank it again in the mornin with it dead cold (to verify)

The solution? A quart of transmission fluid in the engine.... :thumbs2:

Bob; you have a C4, so have you checked the vacuum modulator? If the diaphram is busted, it will create a vacuum leake, and it will suck trans fluid into the engine, putting white smoke out the exhause. Forgive if someone has already touched on this, but it will cause all kinds of grief. Unplug the vacuum hose and see if there is any trans fluid in the hose. Just my $.02 worth. Good luck!

Thanks for posting this one. I am having a problem keeping mine running. Since at least November when it got colder I have been having issues with keeping it idle. I went and started it up the other night and it started right up with out pumping the gas or anything. It idled good for about 2 minutes and then it started to sputter and then it stalled. The only way to start it after that point is to flood it. I have been trying to fiddled with the carb but I have had not luck. The thing I noticed was the the choke is stuck open when it has been just sitting there in the driveway cold. I can not get it to budge by hand. Any thoughts would be great.

Oh, it is a single barrel but I am not sure of the make. It is on a 72 with a 250.

After the engine cools, the choke won't close untill the gas pedal is pressed.

Likewise, after you start it and the engine starts warming up, the choke won't open again untill the gas pedal is pressed.

This is all done by a little lever coming off the choke, that goes to a "thing", then an adjustable stopper connected to the throttle cable hits that "thing". If anyone knows what that "thing" is called, feel free to help me out :yup:

Since you car runs good at first, then starts sputtering, try just tapping the gas once...

The choke is always open. Right now I am dealing with a mouse issue to boot, so I am always checking my airfilter before anything and I have noticed the choke is open at that point. (and no I have found no mice in the air filter yet. they can not get past the out part of filter.

I try to tap the gas when I hear it ready to stall and then it stumbles and runs real rough. I can smell the gas at that point. It is almost like it is flooding itself out. Right now it is so bad I can not even back out of the driveway. As soon as I take my foot off the gas to apply the break to reverse it stalls. Once it has even been running for 10 minutes or so with me giving it the gas it still stalls when I take my foot off of it. And the entire time it is running rough.

All of the issues I had were related to the EGR Valve. I replaced it and i was able to adjust my carb correctly and now it is smooth sailing.
