Everytime I got to dirve my car i let it warm up and it idles fine in park and neutral but when i put in gear the idle drops off and sometimes it dies. Then when im sitting at a red light or in traffic and I go to hit the gas it will sometimes cut off. Why? any suggestions of how to fix?
    thanks

it could be too rich, or too lean or the rpm is too low. the timeing could be off. you could have a vaccuum leak.

Check the state of tune first. Plug wires, plugs, timing, carb adjustment can all affect the idle. If the engine is stock (no aftermarket cam) then it should be able to idle properly in drive (which is where the curb idle solenoid is set for speed). If all the adjustments seem to be right then you may need to rebuild your carb. If you don't have the time or tools to do that then buy a replacement carb (rebuilt) for a 1969 302 or 351W. The 69 carbs don't have a lot of the emission mods that were added from 1970 on. It will be easier to set and make it run properly.
