    found c-4 rebuilt 5000 miles ago w/2400 stall/cooler for $300.00.
Sounds fair price owner says he'll guarentee it sound. question is are all c-4 small bell the same lenth from bell to tail? Its out of a 68 Galaxey.
will it fit with no mods in our Mav's? Then the next question is will the 8" rear end handle a very mild 302 and this tranny?

If this is truly a 68 model these are not the most desired transmissions. To most they are considered weak because of the input shaft (24 spline) And the pressure and oiling circuits are different. What this means is you cant swap the Valve bodies from a newer trans, And Shift kits are not as plentiful. Most all Ive saw have a 3 clutch direct drum which is not good. It can be upgraded with the bigger input, But this means changing the drum as well as the pump and the shaft. I have built these transmissions with the mentioned upgrades and they worked OK. But if i were planning on putting any thing over stock H.P. i would look for a newer model. Yes the 8 inch will handle up to 400 H.P. if all the set up is within specks. But with anything over that and sticky tires you will need a:sweep: As always this is just my opinion.

I'm glad for this forum it keeps guys like me somewhat safe from ourselves. Thanks for the info, we have a c-4 that came in the car behind a 250 six that will work fine. Would we be better off making upgrades to the 75 we have. We are trying to avoid transmission probs. down the road after we do a v-8 swap. Are there upgrades that you would recommend prior to the swap? As near as I can tell this tranny has 66,000 miles on it. fluid looks nice and red, and no leaks. Shifts from gear to gear smoothly. I was told if its not faulting dont mess with it, that included filter and fluid, modulator. I understand the therory behind draining fluid on an high miled trannys. So what do you guys think? educate this grasshopper!

My 66 model c-4 has held up great over the past ten years of bracket racing and street duty. The only issue so far is the 2-3 flare and i think its in the old worn out valvebody. My cars not as fast as some but 7-teens aint bad i dont think. Just my perspective.
