I did not notice when taking it off, the PS pulley is also balanced. So now I have no idea how to line it back up with the main pulley. If someone with a 200ci could look and see for me, where the doezen or so holes on the front of your PS pulley are in conjunction to say... the timing mark on your main pulley, Id be eternally greatfull! :)

Never heard of a power steering pulley having to be lined up w/ the crank pulley etc so it stays in balance.

Im subscribing to see if I learn something

Anything that is not bolted to the crank needs to be balanced by itself, not with the crank. That makes no sense.

The PS pulley that bolts to the main crank pulley.... not the PS pump :yup:

It would be a crank pulley still, just one that the belt goes from to the PS.

Any any case, just bolt it on.... shouldn't matter. As long as you have the correct balance balancer. And you should if its the same one you took off

    Alright. That'll make things easier.

Next question... The rubber seal is supposed to mate with the front on the motor, correct? Ive put the damn thing on twice now and both times the center bolt just stops, with about another milimeter to go for the pulley.

The first time I figured I didn't clean the new (used) one well enough. So I took it off, sanding it down some more, and greased it, and it still did the same thing.

    Ideas?

Same bolt, identical balancer.... I don't remember a washer coming off :hmmm:

Doesn't mean there wasn't one on though. Anyone know for sure?

The washer is like 3/16" thick and mine is kinda dished. Pics would be nice.

I tried threading the nut tragith into the crank, and it went all the way in, so that's not the problem.

As for pictures, nothing really to see. Imagine a dampner that won't go in the final 1-2mm.

So the bolt threads in all the way but once you put the balancer and pulleys on it doesnt?

I am using the main bolt to pull the balancer onto the crank. The bolt goes into the crank w/ no balancer, so it is not a bolt/washer problem. The balancer just goes on 98% of the way and just STOPS. I am using a 1/2in wrench with a 2ft cheater bar and it just won't go anything further. Both of the balancers do this.

Ive inspected around the crank, and see no obstruction. Im clueless.

There's no rubber rubber seal on the harmonic balancer that mates with the front of the motor. There's a rubber bushing that allows the outside of the damper to absorb rotational vibrations. Maybe you're expecting the rubber bushing to contact the front of the motor?? It can't do that.

    No F'n Way.

I feel like a complete idiot. The way the front of the motor is built on the front, and the oil patterns I thought for sure that was an oil seal.

    Thank You (y)

lol I was about to say the same thing.

It can't seal against the block or you'd have problems
