I searched the forum, but didn't find much to help in my situation.

What would you all recommend for a cam for my 351W? It is a 1970 and it has been redone before. It has some sort of mystery cam in it, but I don't care for the way it sounds. I am going to have the entire thing rebuilt and want to put a different cam in it. It will be backed up by a C4, so I can't have anything too radical, but I want some noticeable lope/roughness at idle. Pistons are dished, and I may be able to reuse them. Any suggestions? Crane is now gone (maybe) so I can't call them. I was thinking Lunati.

Thanks for any suggestions. I am retarded when it comes to cam choice (pun intended!)

`if u wanted to go with a roller lifter, you may want to try an F303 or an X303 FRPP cam

I thought about that, but I would like to keep the flat tappet lifters.

I am using the Comp Cam Extreme Energy 274 cam. Awesome cam...over 333ft-lbs torque and 327Hp at the wheels and runs low 12's! Sounds great and is very reliable...

defintly call a cam manifacture, or several. cams are very specialized. you can do ok by picking one off the self but you will get the most out of one by talking to and geting one from a cam manifacture

Yup, that's what I did. On their website, they have a form to fill out, and they will email you back with their recommendations. Comp Cams also has a program you can download off their site.

Thanks, guys. I will play with the software/forms and try to call them tomorrow.

Do either of you happen to have vids/sound clips of your engines running with those cams?

Mine are here: http://www.putfile.com/grabber71/media Some are with open headers though! Fuel pump one is good..also first run inside on Dyno times and all Mission races are with closed exhaust!

Sounds sweet! Thanks! What torque converter/stall are you running? Do you think I would need any head (screw in studs, different rockers, etc) or piston/engine work to make this work with my engine? I would be having this professionally installed. Do you drive this on the street much? If so, how do you like the driveability or the cam?

I have had this cam/engine combo since 2001...started off with stock head(bigger valves and some port work) and was running 12.80's..then switched to AFR's. All times in the mission runs were in the street class(closed exhaust runs 12.50's..open runs 12.20's and with a 100 shot 11.50's) As a bonus...I am only using 3.50 gears..so it can drive anywhere. I am using an (advertised)2800stall..but I only get around 2600 out of it. Definatly screw in studs and guide plates(I wouldn't use rail rockers with this..my opinion...I am just using the Comp roller tip rockers) It is very reliable! I drive to attend shows in Washington a few times a year and, 2006+2007, I drove down to attend the Fabulous Fords Forever show at Knotts Berry Farm! I always drive to the track as well...never had a problem at all! Very very happy with this cam...a good all around cam!

I was hoping to have mine running by yesterday, but I'm waiting on a few small things, as soon as it is, I'll post a vid.

    Thanks for the details, guys.

Dave, I hope your break in goes smoothly. Did you have to do screw in studs or anything exotic for your cam? Can I get the lumpity idle without the screw in studs?
