Hello everyone, name's Jason and this is my first post. Here's a little bit about me and my Mav....I own a 1974 Ford Maverick which I bought back in 1992 for a grand sum of $300. It was a bit "rough" to say the least, but ran. Plus, being my first car at age 16 it was more than good enough for me. It had a strong running 250 I6 and 3 on the tree. I didn't know a thing about driving a standard but that didn't matter...I'd learn. For that matter I didnt know much about "cars" either. What follows is over a decade and a half of love and hate. It was redish orange in color...more or less...kinda depended on what angle you looked at the car and weather or not you noticed all the primer spots. If you did you might have called it grey instead, haha. It was a 2 door and therefore "cooler" than its 4 door brothers...but as many in my school pointed out...it's just a Maverick. Did't bother me much...I mean after I put in the bucket seats that reclined all the way back...what else did a young high school Romeo need in a car? Well, i soon found out...wheel bearings, brakes, tranny, oil, spark plugs, more oil, clean out rats, more oil, tires. List goes on and on. I spent more time working on that car than I did with my girlfriends. When I got that car I didn't know much about automotive maint. By the time I finished highschool, I was a pro. I didn't even have to take a shop class. I have many stories of which I plan on sharing. Most I can now look back on and laugh at. Thanks! Jason
Sounds like the girlfriends were in a lot better shape than that Maverick was so they just needed less work to the forum from Northeast Pennsylvania
I joined awhile back but right now my Mav is just sitting and needs re-restored. I have had too many other "project" cars, but am now wanting to fix her back up to her former glory. At one time it was a really nice car. I changed a few people's minds from...ewwww a Maverick to....hmmm that's a cool car. Really am missing the sound of the V-8 I dropped into her years ago. Sold the 4 speed so now i need to come up with a t-5 or something.
Welcome Jason.....for one week in July, JOPLIN is going to be the center of the Maverick/Comet world! We invaded JOPLIN last year and we had a blast!
