well my 4 door (1972) was running great!!!!! tranny purrin like a kitten. then along came carlisle last year and we put the 2 door on the road and took the 4 door off. time to put the 4 door back on the road. for some reason (not low on fluid) the tranny kinda lets loose between 2nd and 3rd. and under moderate acceleration as well. what coulda happened? we didn't drive it for a year. we did run the engine now and then. hoses seem to be ok. any ideas? thanks
Sitting idle is a not so good thing for equiptment, unless prepared properly for storage. I think you have a possible sticky shift valve or a seal has dried up or some varnishing is restricting the correct shift pattern. Have you tried shifting it manually at fast throttle? sometimes this will break loose stuff, try and replace the modulator also. Make sure all linkage etc. is adj. ok. Other than that fluid change and filter would be a choice. If you do the fluid chg, I would pull the valve body and get hold of an "H" servo and install it. Will help the 2-3 shift a lot anyway. Just a few ideas to contemplate.
check out the Maverick Recalls post in the main forum Ford actually had a recall in the 70's for C-4's that had been rebuilt that had a shift problem between 1st and 2nd gear
