Now that my hands make me look like Im 105 years old, and the skin is about to peel off, I finished cleaning my engine bay with acid. I think if I do this again im wearing gloves next time. Although the nice thing is that the acid did burn off all the grease on my hands that soap wouldnt take off. lol

Thought I would add the before photo

WOW!!! You have really got that front end stripped. Keep the pictures coming. Maybe I'll get inspired to do some more on mine.

Make sure you neutralize the acid or you will never get ANY paint to stick to the steel for very long...Looks nice and clean though.Eazy Off oven cleaner works wonders too.But you will have a nose bleed afterwards.

Exactly what I was going to say, other than the nose bleed part.

I used muratic acid. Muratic acid is awesome for removing rust. It will remove fairly heavy rust without even having to use a wire wheel. The problem with muratic acid if you let it dry for more than 3 hours is that it will cause panels to surface rust fast and look worse than when you started. The secret to using muratic and acid, is when you done spray the metal down with acetone. Use two coats of acetone with 30 min between layers. Once the acetone dries then spray the metal down with ospho, let the ospho sit for about 30 min then wipe it down with laquer thinner and you will look good as new.

Personal safety gear is pretty cheap CONSIDERING...

    uh...

First thing I saw was the cement blocks... looks like the car's frame is ready to cut through them. You're putting all the weight on about 1" of unsupported stone with an air gap below it and they could crumble or blow apart. Might think about stacking them sideways with the holes facing upwards to distribute the weight.

Maybe you should invest in a disposable respirator and rubber gloves and a face shield or at least safety glasses... esp. if your gonna strip more of the car. Was the car moved into a closed shop? HCL acid and metal make hydrogen gas ...

    BOOM!

... and can explode in confined areas if it builds up (same thing about smoking while recharging a battery).

Assuming it was dilute acid... it will just eat away at your skin and lungs slowly. Please don't crawl underneath and start on the frame... it eats eye balls much quicker. And some cleaners and solvents are "bases" which can mix to create chlorine gas and other noxious fumes.

Don't mean to lecture... I did that once in a lab and after we all got itchy throats and started coughing from the fumes they had to evacuate (the fan wasn't working). But you did a helluva job stripping it by the looks of it...

    Good work!...
