Truth be known, that term today is called "JIT" - "Just In Time" manufacturing. Basically, the premise is, build stuff when you need it - don't prebuild and let resources sit unused on a shelf/in a warehouse (with manufacturing monies tied up in them as well).

It's normal for parts to be made 3 to 5 weeks before the assembly date. I never seen dates as close as yours. My oil pan is dated 10-3-73 and the car was built on 11-1-73

It could have just been one of the last parts that where installed. Maybe they where waiting on the parts to ship the car?

:yup: We do just in time manufacturing at Kubota, where I work.

This is a strong possibility also. It's actually pretty common for assembly lines to run out of parts, and temporarily shut the line down. We had that happen yesterday, sent everybody in the building home at 1:30 P.M., and we're all going in late today.

What are you doing with the 4 lug stuff? I would be interested in the spindles and hubs.
