ok so i went to the track with my 2.3 turbo car last night and my 8 inch rear did great i have done about 20 passes on slicks now with it and a realize that my car doesent make alot of torque but i was lauching at 6500 rpm and 5 psi boost with a 5 speed manual and it did great i went a best 60 foot of 1.82 and there is a thread in the drag racing section showing a breakdown of my timeslip but i just thought i would say that the 8 inch is doing good considering i am on slick with a 380 gear and minispool dumping it from 6500 rpm and shifting it on the wood with over 300 hp to the wheels

I hear that the 8 inch is good for up to 400 hp.

By the way, your car sounds like fun!

I ran my 306 with 100 shot of nitrous on slicks with the 8",with factory posi, and 4.11's for two full seasons with no problems. I ran mid 12's with 1.84 60fts.

Very cool video and pics. My Comet goes 11.40's on slicks with the 8" rear end and a mini spool. So far its OK, but probably won't last too long. Yours with the stick shouldn't last, but these Fords are pretty tough.

Your car is totally awesome by the way. :thumbs2:

This is my first reply regarding your car .... just wanted to say that it has been very interesting seeing what you have accomplished with it. :thumbs2:

I would worry about the 5 speed going south before that 8 inch.

You have a couple of factors in your favor to make that axle live ... very light car to begin with, and like you stated, the motor isn't a torque monster.

If you had a really healthy V8 Torino, an 8 inch would live a much shorter life than with the same motor in a Mav. You have to sling a lot more weight around.

More food for thought is that a 9 inch is more unsprung weight (40 lbs, I think) and takes more HP to turn over. What makes your combo work is to keep things flyweight. (y) If you want to change anything, I would be going for aluminum wheels and driveshaft.... minimize the rotating masses.
