    reg bumper

all my tow bar uses the bumper for is keeping car from moving forward and backwards while towing, my bar is pulling from the chains to the A frames on the car. I agree if anybody is JUST using the bumper they are looking for trouble

So this will not destroy the tranmission or anything because it's being towed behind another car? I am really liking this and think I'm gonna go get one and just attach it to the frame instead of to the bumper.

And how do you disconnect the drive shaft? Do you have to remove it completely? Is it messy?

Yes,pull the drive shaft.(The trans doesnt have a rear pump to keep it lubricated).Stick a yoke back in the trans or put a spray can paint lid over the tail shaft and tape it up real good.

Drive shaft will be disconected, cleaned and stored in the trunk.

LOL the silly things young guys will do. When I was around that age a friend broke down it the Bronx on a highway with his 65 Mustang. I took my 74 Impala and 25 feet of chain to tow him out. All was going well until I slowed down for an exit ramp between two highways. To my surprise when I looked to my right I saw my friends mustang going around me. He had a petrified look on his face. As he pulled ahead, the chain tightened a pulled his nose into my quarter panel and the cars locked up and went into a slide. putting us in a dangerous position on a blind bend with tractor trailers ripping through at 70 mph. Apparently my friend thought he had no brakes (since the power brake assist wasnt working) and drove around me when I slowed down. cell phones might have been handy back then.

Yeah, that's why I refuse to do the rope/chain thing with someone who isn't experienced with it, and even then I prefer to be the guy in the back. My brother and I can do this like a pair of synchronized swimmers and that rope won't slack up once. But with some other people... Let's just say I've been surprised by a few folks whom I thought were rather smart. They taught me to use a rope or strap instead of a chain, because when somebody does something stupid, you get a busted rope in the road instead of a bumper.
