I have finally found a maverick . Going to pick it up on sat. Now the question will a 390 with a c6 fit? Or do I need to change the front suspension? Oh and the car is a 74.

'Nuff time and money you can make anything fit. As it sits now, no. You'll need to get rid of the shock towers.

It'll fit if you have enough money. It won't fit unless you change out to an aftermarket or Mustang ll front suspension. :)

390 is a good engine but if I was going to go through all the trouble of a Mustang II front end I would drop a 460 in there. lol

It'll fit with only a tower shave.
I wouldn't have believed it myself, but there are pics of the swap right here on the board if you look around. The C6 will be very tight, especially in an early Maverick with the small trans tunnel.

I just noticed you have a 74 though... Ought to be okay. But there is still plenty of fabbing to do, it's not easy I'd bet, but it's easier than an M2 swap. In which case I would use a 460 myself.

Here ya go... This is a 74 with 390.
Looks about like a 351c without a tower shave.
Hooker and Hedman both used to make swap headers for
FE Mavericks. The both discontinued them about 10 years
ago or so. Probably find some used/old stock if you look
around. They came in tube sizes from 1.875" to 2.25" IIRC.
The FE exhaust is very much like a Cleveland, as it points
downward, rather than straight out to the towers, like 302s.
