Well today I tried to install my new electric fan. I wired up per directions and I dont get any rotation from the fan. I tested the fan directly from the battery and it spins. I have a 180 degree sensor that I tested with some boilin water after wiring was done. The fan is a generic I bought of ebay 16 inch 2300 cfm. Anyone with any input would be helpful. I have put up a link to the wiring I am using. By the way I am an electrical retard. Thanks...

If you wired it exactly as that diagram shows, and you know the sensor and fan motor to be good, it should work. Have you tested the relay to make sure it's working?

I put a tester to the relay and the wire to the battery tests good. The wire to the fan does not give a reading. What I dont know is if it should register or not register til the temp sensor kicks on. I guess all I can do is try another relay at this point...

What sort of "tester" is this?

If it's an ohmeter, you will have high resistance untill the sensor kicks on, allowing current to flow.

What's a relay - $2? Go get another and see if it works. Never hurts to have a spare anyhow.

to me that is not the best sensor to use. i don't like the radiator mounted ones.
also, do you think 16" of cooled radiator is enough to cool your engine?

The fan will NOT come on until the temp is over the switch temperature.
If you are testing it when it is cold then the fan should not be on.
Block the radiator air flow with a piec of cardboard and run the engine at a high idle until the temp comes up - then the fan should come on and stay on until the engine temp cools down.

Pauls shouldnt blocking the radiator off do the same thing as me putting it in boiling water to get it up to kick on temp. The tester I used was one just like this. http://www.devildogtools.com/toaid27heduc.html 71gold I am thinking this will keep the engine cool. Or I should say I hope so.

Well tried a second relay and problem solved. Thanks for the help. I do have one question though. I took the mechanical fan of but had to leave the spacer on due to the fact the bolts were to long. What is the correct bolt length to use so I can get rid of that 2" spacer. The engine is a 351w. Thanks...

1/2" bolts should be long enough to bolt on the pulley itself. i think they're 5/16" thread..

The fan bolts are 5/16" national fine thread. With no spacer they are 1/2" long. Add the thickness of your spacer to the 1/2" length.

...substract the thickness of your spacer from the stock bolt...that will give the length bolt you need...:yup:
