Too late now. It goes on when the panels are apart before you weld them.

It seems like forever but it is finally painted!!! I still need to buff it out but I couldnt wait to post a picture. I will be working on getting the motor and tranny in all this week...tons to do still. I am hoping to be able to take it for a test drive by the 1st of May. Wish me luck, I'm going to need it.

Congrats! That looks sweet. Got a couple of questions since mine will be hitting the booth soon as well ..

    1) Did you paint the Jams on your car with the Doors on?

    2) Did you paint the underside of the hood and then install it so you could spray the entire car or did you just paint it with the engine compartment?

I did the engine compartment and engine first on my car so they'll be masking off my engine compartment during painting ...

    Thanks ... Dan

Ok, lets see. It is called Patriotic Red (2001 Mitsubishi). It is metallic with a pearl in it. It will look a lot different in the sunlight. Metallic silver stripes.

Yes, we painted the jams with the doors on but with the fenders off. Made it pretty easy that way.

We painted the underside of the hood and engine compartments before and then used a spongy foam weather stripping to mask off the hood, jams, trunk and other stuff. I had never used it before but it seems to work well and is real easy to use.

The paint in the picture is only about 2 hours old. Tomorrow I am putting the engine and tranny in and whatever else I can do. Buffing begins next tuesday.

This has been quite a project but total so far is about $5000. I was figuring about $3,500 when I started. This included the cost of the car ($300). What I am dreading most is getting the clutch linkage hooked up....

I hear yah about the clutch linkage and all. That is why I did the V8 swap and Auto to 4-spd conversion before the paint. The amount of times I was in and under the car and engine compartment with jacks, jacks stands and tools I didn't want to screw up my new paint job while I was doing all the mechanical stuff. Happy to say that my Tranny and Clutch Linkage are installed as of yesterday ....

Also ... as you can see ... be carefull of Brake Fluid! It eats the crap out of new paint! I got some touching up to do ....

Hey Jim, seeing what color you painted your car, maybe you should have left those 351W heads red!:D

...actually, my motor is red now....but it t-bird red!! :)

By the looks of that clutch set up I will have to put the z-bar in after I put the headers in...right?? This is going to be tight.

Yup .... Headers first ... Then z-bar. Also ... You have to take the z-bar apart first ... put the frame rail side on then put the engine side on from underneath then bolt them together. I had to shave the engine side z-bar a little bit to clear the headers ....
