well iv managed to put the original gt scoop on my hood.now im wondering if i should cut a hole in my hood to make it func?its mint and rust free.i want to add locking hood pins so o dont want to cut the frame just the skin.pluss if i do this i want to run some hose around the edge of the hole.

I did it to a maverick hood.....I used to have pics and a detailed write up. But I cannot find them now:huh: I do remember using the measurements off the hole in PINKY's and it did not compromise any of the skeleton.

But, IMO I would not cut a hole in the hood with a forward opening scoop on a car that is your daily driver.

I have done it. Took a piece of foam, cut it to the stack diameter, dampened it with some paint, set it on top of the stack and then shut the hood. Voila, a template to cut your hole. Remove the scoop and jigsawed it out. File and sand the edges and fini. If you look carefully you can see the stack sitting just above the lip of the hood. I have never had a problem with this setup and it crams the air right down the carb.

yep, leave it alone. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a mint hood for a Comet? If it was a Maverick (non Grabber) i'd say heck yeah, do it!

You won't really see any performance gain, the stock hood scoop doesn't sit up high enough to catch any forced air.

I thought about making mine functional also. I want the have a dope place for the "NOS" purge valve to shoot out of and for my engine compartment glow lights to be seen thru. That would be the shiznit!

Mine is functional. Hood is mint. I like the looks of seeing the air cleaner thru the scoop... Been that way for 6 or more years now...

I cut a hole in my perfectly fine and rust-free hood. Noticeable gains and no regrets. But it's just a regular Maverick hood. If somebody 10 years down the road cusses me for that, then they'll really be pissed when they see what I did to the tail panel!

I might not have done to a Comet hood, since they're harder to find, and I'd probably go to hell if I did that to a Grabber hood, but again it's just a Maverick. Part of what I love about this car is I can make it my own and put it under the knife with no remorse.

The only way I'd do it is if I was installing a Trans Am or Mustang shaker set up.

Because shaker hoods are infinitely better than non shaker hoods no matter how cool the scoop.

I have a hole cut in mine. But the hole was there first for the tunnel ram and dual carbs. The scoop came later to cover the hole when I took the tunnel ram off.
