There is a red button on the drivers side fender apron just next to the washer fluid bottle. Does anyone know what that button does? Thanks.

You obviously have a 74 maverick. If it's working properly you have to buckle your seatbelt in order to start the engine. If you are working under the hood you can push this button to bypass that function by pushing this button and start the engine without buckling up. (74 only)

You are correct, It is a 74. I guess it's not working properly because it starts fine without the seat belt buckled. I'm glad that thing didn't cause me problems, I would be pissed if I couldn't start the car and that was the problem. Since this car is for my son, his first car, I might just get it working properly to remind him to buckle up. Thanks for the info.

I've got 2 1974s and both of them have no problem firing up seatbeltless.

If I'm not mistaken there is a plug under the drivers seat (probably connects to belt) that if disonnected, will allow it to start without buckling.
