Hi good people , got the day off tommorrow and thinking about changing the front shocks on my 75 Mav. I searched for a simple proceedure with really no success on a step by step..
Is this job doable in my backyard without much experience , any special tools needed for spring compression or is it simply the 4 bolts that I can see ??
If there is a link to a simple step by step anyones imput would really help.. Thanks:huh:

I just use a floor jack and a jack stand. Jack up one side of car until front wheel is off of the ground and put stand under the frame of car, let car down (wheel not touching).

Put jack under lower a arm, take off all the top bolts and nuts including the ones that hold the shock mount, then jack up the a arm a little until you can get socket or wrench on lower bolts. Then you can just pull everything out. Sometimes you might have to take the shock tower brackets off to take the shock tower brackets out.

Put new shock in bolt in the bottom, put shock tower bracket back in and lower the jack guideing everything back into place and put nuts and bolts back in. Lower jack, move it and take jack stand out. Move to other side.

I am sure you could jack up the whole front end but I feel that it is safer to do one side at a time. And I am sure that others do it differently than I do.

Well it does not need to be the a arm but someplace solid on the front suspension were the tie rods (steering rods) meet the frame. You will understand better once you jack the car up because it is the part that will pivot down until all the slack is taken up.

Yes it is pretty simple to do and only need a few tools to do.
