Removing disk brakes from a 77 maverick for my 72 comet, will I need to put he master cylinder and Proportion valve from the 77 or will the existing one work with the new front disk?

dont worry about the master cylinder, just buy a new one from a parts house (around $20). you can use your drum prop valve but if the disc prop valve is there, i'd take it too and use it just to be sure :)

Thanks and more concerned about the proportion valve I have both but if it makes no difference using the existing one for my drum brakes it would be easier as the one on the 77 is upright and I may have to make brake line adjustments, not sure havent looked at it that close yet.

My 73 has the drum prop valve, and it's fine with the disc's. I was out cruising for hours last night. Playing with the big boy's in their Mach's.

You will need to make brake line adjustments or use adapters on the master cylinder lines.
I don't like using adapters so I made new lines using the correct fittings.

Not if I leave the existing Master and Proportional valve will I? Will just have to do something at the new front disk. Correct?

Use the 77 hard lines from the shocktower to the flex lines. They keep the flex line in front of the caliper.

if you use your existing m/c and prop valve, no mods will be needed. and the front brake hoses for the calipers screw right in w/o mods. :yup:

The disc brake master cylinder usually has a larger piston diameter and higher capacity reservoir.
I had to shorten the lines at the brake hose connection on mine. They were to far forward for the proper operation of the flex lines when the wheels turned.

Look carefully at your proportioning valve, it may be a distribution block only. My all drum 74 has one.

I had to shorten the hard lines to the wheels so they went into the hose bracket from the rear of the car instead of the front. The flex hose to the caliper made a 180 degree turn and went into the hose bracket from the front.

Tom, the drum brake stuff will work fine. That's what I run on mine with discs. If you need any help, give me a shout, I'll be glad to come over and help.

I didn't even change the lines on my 73, I just connected the 74 flex lines, to the stock drum line location, and it worked fine.
