i have a serpentine belt kit and it has a power steering pump on it but no longer have power steering, and i've been driving with the pump dry. well it finally went out and my pulley fell off the pump. so i want to replace the pump with a A/C compressor but i don't want to use a compressor off of a mav cause they draw to much HP and they do not have serp pulleys. are there any compressors that i could pull off of some other car that would bolt to the left side of the motor to replace the power steering pump? i will be looking around and try to keep you guys posted if i find something to work.

If your car has factory A/C, there is a conversion bracket made, so you can mount a Sanden compressor to the factory mount.

I don't think they draw much power really. I don't feel any difference, in fact the idle doesn't even change when I turn my AC on. Of course I'm using a funky low-pressure refrigerant in mine so that might have something to do with it.

However I'll admit that iron compressor is a great way to lower the suspension another half inch or so...

yeah i trying to keep the weight to a minimum, space and HP to a maximum. plus i don't know if i could use a serpentine belt and r134a refrigerant in the old compressors.

I've been told the York style, consume around 21HP, where the sanden only consumes 7...

    This stuff.

According this, "ES-12a is up to 32% more efficient than R-12 and much more efficient than R-134a. This means less wear on your refrigeration system, substantial energy savings and reduced operating costs. With ENVIRO-SAFE the compressor will load approximately 2-3 hp only."

That's a tall claim and there's no way to quantify it without a dyno, which I'm not gonna do any time soon, but according to the seat of my pants, I really can't feel a difference in power with the AC on or off.

Could you just use the brackets of of a crown vic or something like that. Granted it does put the compressor back on top but they came with serpentines from the factory. Or are you trying to keep the aftermarket setup?

i will probably have to make a bracket to make all my pulleys line up. one thing to keep in mine is i have a 351w and most 302 brackets don't fit cause of the deck height deference.
