A gentleman is looking at buying a 250 ci I have. He wants to put it in a 1964 Econoline (Van). It currently has a 144 ci with a 3-speed manual. The 144 has a 4-bolt bellhousing. Of course the 250, has a 6-bolt. He knows he will need a new bellhousing and clutch, however are there any issues on the linkage with his current setup that would prevent him using a 250 engine? If not, what bellhousings will work for him? anybody have a clue? Thanks,
The 250 and 302 use the same bell housing. Clutch linkage should be the same. I had one of those Econolines many moons ago. It was a pretty neat van but it is a pretty wimpy transmission. First gear is also unsynchronized. I dont have a clue wether it has the same bolt pattern as the newer 3 speeds. I'd go ahead and get a newer one. That way it will bolt up to the bell housing, be alot stronger, and fully synchronized. THey should be pretty easy to come by.
Try http://www.inlinepages.com/ for a ton of inline six transmission/bellhousing info. The little non-synchro three speed won't bolt to any 250 bellhousing.
f.y.i. those econoline vans have 9" rears. I found that's what my Maverick has in it when I went to get new brakes for it.
