Hey guys - just curious what the blue canister is in the back left of my engine bay (looking from the front)? Looks like a vacuum canister of some sort...? Or was that emissions control from back in the day? I have a 71 comet

Yes, emissions control. It's a pot filled with carbon material that (is supposed to) neutralize the vapors coming off your gas tank. You'll find that a steel tube runs from your gas tank to it, just like a gas line but for vapors, and a hose goes from the top of the canister to your air filter, to be burned up in your engine.

Soooo that will be visiting the trash can. lol. I will lots of random questions, I pulled out my engine and tranny and am taking everything out of the bay for cleaning. I have another random question off hand - there are a couple of square blocks (electrical) on my passenger side of my engine bay. Off hand I dont remember what they connect to - but im thinking it was my alternator and battery. Are those voltage regulators of some sort?

    Thanks for the replies!

If you ditch the canister, shorten the vent line so your not venting fumes in the engine compartment. Keep them as far back as possible. Also do not cut the metal line with anything that will cause sparks unless you remove it from the car first. :D
