hey guys i have a budy that is willing to just give me a working 460 engine, tranny, and rear end...now i am thinking about putting it in my 1970 maverick but i still want to be able to drive the thing in town....what all would i need to do this project
Good thing the motor's free, you can spend that money on a cutting torch and a Mustang II front end kit.
After all of the trouble though, just imagine floor boarding that 460 in a light Maverick! Better hold on and try and catch up with the rear end. lol Shock towers are the 1st of a long list to make it work right. clint
im a lil new at motors since im more into body repair...whats your guys estimate on a project like this?
well the trans wont fit in the tunnel without using a BFH on it I would say 2000.00 if you find a front end from a donor car
Not true. Robert (Mavericknutt on here) did not modify his tunnel for his C6 and had no issues. Might talk to him about motor placement. Longviewgrabber: You should PM Mavericknutt about this. He will point you in the right direction. He did his front-end without spending a ton of cash. Bottom line, if you are willing to do the work, it's worth it just for the wow factor. A small-block stroker can definitely run with a 460 though.
Been a while since I had this conversation with him (yeah, it comes up once in a while on here ) so I can't remember specifics on it. I seem to recall it wasn't as much as you'd think.
the only reason I say this is a good friend of mine is putting a 460 in his right and had to build a special c/4 trans to use the stock trans mount said the c/6 with no fines on its back fit better but would have to tap here and there if you lower the motor and use diff. trans mount it can be done and you are right it is not all that bad if you know how to weld ,,,
Yes I built a new trans cross member,no it does not bolt up to where the c-4 did yes the c-6 fits in the tunnel but is much longer than the c-4 yes a c-6 weighs more than a c-4 but you can build a bullit proof c-6 for a lot less than than the c-4 (yes you can)(and remember we are talking big blocks here) I am always happy to help anyone out with info or fab work . I would strongly suggest the mustang II front end it makes it alot easier to work on my car before the aluminum heads and water pump was 300 lbs heavier on the front axle than the rear (my car is coil over ladderbar 9"rear un narrowed and still has the full interior with a 6 point cage and sub frame conectors)I have not weighed the car since the changes I have fender well exit headers on my car as well I need to put the car up on the lift and take new pictures again so I can be able to explain more. I am getting ready to start on another maverick (chassied car) because I want a lighter more purpose built car. I love my car the way it is but over the years I have gotten to where I want to drive it more so I want to build a race car so I can mellow mine out more so I can drive it more.
