for street use I would reccpomend a 3.55 or 3.80

For street use, those two ratios seem to be really good in our cars. Mavs are light enough cars that any more ratio is probably a waste.

This advice is coming from having just yanking out a 4.62 (it was almost free and I was doing a lot of bracket racing). Just put in a 3.55 and can't wait to get back to the track. I'll bet the ET is the same with more mph.

There are others here that have echoed this, too.

i was thinking somewhere around 377 because that's what most mustangs swap to

they dont make 3.77 gear sets. there are 3.73s for 8.8s that the newer mustangs use. and 3.80s for the 8" that is in our mavericks. there is no perciveable difference between the two ratios. if you want economy go with the 3.55s. if you want an edge towards perfromance that go with the 3.80s. if you want good performance and are not too concerned about fuel economy then 4.10s are what you want.

I jumped from the 2.80s or what ever the stock ratio was in my 8", to a 3.73. Both with the T-5, the 2.80s were nice on the highway, but didn't really ever get into 5th gear, now with the 3.73s, 1st gear is a crawler, but it starts out fine in 2nd. I think I may swap the trans out or re gear it at some point

I'm running 3.55 in mine. 1st gear can get annoying as you run out of it pretty fast so I can't imagine even needing 1st gear with a 3.80. Mine is very daily drivable and I rarely drag race it. With my new 9", I chose to stay with a 3.50 with hopes of eventually changing my first gear from a 3.35 to a 2.95 first gear.

I dunno, someone else's opinion, especially for top end since his 4th gear and my drive gear have the same ratio. My tires are 215/65-16 (27" tall).

More directly I have a T-5 in my 1980 Mustang with 3.73's and 225/60-15 (25" tall) tires and I almost wish it was a little lower but I need to run it down the track again to be sure.

3.35 with 3.80 is useless on street car !!!! unless you will be towing with the maverick and need the power take off on a steep hill.... my choice would be the 3.80 , 2.95 1st gear and .63 overdrive for performance driving or the 3.55 for long range cruzing and economy.... any way... it will be a fun car to drive !!!!!

my foxbody had a t5 and 3.55's when i got it and they worked great all around.for all around but a bit more towards performance go 3.73 or do like me,buy stock in tires and install 4.11's. even with the overdrive i am still well over 3000 rpm's at 70.
