ok, I have a problem. I just got my Mav. and the trans leaks. So, i bought seals for a c-4. well. I crawl under and to my knowledge I have a c-6. There has been no mods to the tunnel. this trany has 17 bolts on the pan..... My father says he doesn't believe this. He said with out an adapter on it it wouldn't mount up right. I real don't want to bog this engine anymore then it already is, I really would like to keep it the I6. [IMG]

That looks to have a removable bellhousing, so it's not a C6 as they had 1 piece cases (bellhousing is not removable).

If it has a cast iron case instead of an aluminum one, it's a FMX. If you have an aluminum case, you have a C4 or a C5.

    Hope this helps,

They made an aluminum cased fmx as well and it does look like an fmx

ok well this still doesnt make sense.
    c-6: 17 bolt pan
    c-4 &5: 11 bolt
    c-3: 13 bolt
    fmx: 14 bolt

My pan has 17 bolts on it......

Thats a JATCO transmission which has removable bellhousing and 17 bolts in the pan. these came in something like 82 and newer monarchs with 250CI 6's

They made C6's with the small block ford bolt pattern. I have one that came behind a 300 I6 in a '78 Econoline van. Your 250 has the small block ford pattern as well, therefore it is entirely possible to bolt a C6 up to a 250 without an adapter plate.

I'll try to get better images tomorrow before work if it's sitting there again. It's been there off and on for 3 days or so.
