In a couple of weeks, there will be some changes to the MMB. The big change will be the forum software, which will be upgraded to Vbulletin 3.0.1. The forum will have a new look and some new features, but the core functionality will remain the same. AOL users will no longer have login problems and everyone will benefit from the new message editor. When typing a message/reply, many of the hot keys that you are familiar with in MS Word will work here!

Before upgrading this forum, I will need to test out the new features and add some modifications like the time slip database.
Here is what the forum will look like http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/?styleid=4.

I may re-organize some categories and will add some new ones.

If anyone has any suggestions for changes, please post them here.

    Thanks.

Hey Steph, whatever you do will probably be fine with all of us (okay, most of us). You've always taken pride in your work and it shows.

The only thing I might suggest, if you have enough forums, is to go ahead and add a DRAG RACING forum (that someone else brought up a while back).

Will the new forum have a spale checque? (np if not - just wondering - I've seen a few boards use them.)

Good luck with the switching - I hear it can be a pain.

There will be PMs, but no chat room.

I tend to support this decision, as other boards I'm a member of tend to 'chat' technical stuff. Then the information isn't permanent.

    Member Name Cleanup

Stefan, how about asking members who may have had more than one name due to a name change etc. to submit both names to you and have them merged? It would help to make names that may be taken, but not used to be freed up, and give a slighty, but probably not much better registered member count. I know I had enrolled under a different name, and then had problems posting under it, and then just reregistered under another name.

    Re: Member Name Cleanup

Version 3 allows the merging of usernames and I will do that. I will also delete the users that never completed the registration process.

Is it possible to make it that if someone wants to use the Parts for Sale forum that they have to complete the registration process? Just something to help protect the buyer maybe.

Only registerd users can post in all forums. Unless someone posts their phone number or e-mail in the actual post, only members can send e-mails/PMs to other members.

Im converting the forums on my PC at the moment. Its going to be a long process :( Its the re-indexing that will take the most time, but the forum can be open when this is happening.
