I just found out that the dealership that my Comet was bought at way back in Oct 1975 is going to close. After 36 years i guess management has decided to close the dealership. My buddy George who used to get his Ford F-150 serviced there before the truck got smashed up got a letter in the mail from Sheridan Ford telling him that the place was closing. This is really sad as the dealership has been there a long time and i always loved driving my Comet by the place and pointing out that the car was bought there by Mrs. White. A very sad day indeed. Thank God i thought about getting one of their plate frames with their name on it only a few weeks ago. Here are some picture i took at the dealership in better days. These pictures are from last year when i asked the manager there if he could move a Mustang out of the row so i could park my Comet there like when it was on the lot 34 years ago.
that is sad. but its pretty cool the manager moved the car around so you could get a pic of it next to yours. i have the papers that tell where mine was bought, somewhere. maybe when i finish it i should try the same thing if its still around.
I did that years ago when our Ford dealership went under here in town. Although I don't know where my GT started life from. I couldn't resist sitting it out front of the showroom and snapping a couple of pics. I wonder where they are? I can visualize the huge smile on Mrs. White as she drove her new car off the lot...
Yeah i never really thought about Mrs. White driving the ol' Comet off the lot at Sheridan Ford. Wow that is when a time machine would come in handy, just to sit back and watch that from a distance, very cool. I must say i will miss that dealership, just another piece of Port Credit gone.
Yea, the dealership where my '74 Grabber was bought new at in April of '74 is still around as well. Riverside Ford in Macon, GA. I'd like to take it down there and do the same when ever I get it back together.
I like their website, very fancy and for me a Canadian it looks sorta strange to see Mercury just because Ford did away with the name up here a few years ago.
After going to a cruise night i made a trip to Sheridan Ford to see the dealership as it was on the way home, well sadly it is totally closed with cement barriers across both entrances. I was hoping to go in it one last time with the Comet just to say i was there. I ended up parking in front of the barrier and walked around with my kids. Here is a sad picture that i took that says it all.
