My story is short and simply- My mom's first car was a Comet, for me it meant that i no longer had to stand at a bus stop in the winter freezing my butt off or get rained on. I still can remember sitting in the passenger seat and looking at the Comet logo on the dash. From that time on i fell in love with Mavericks and Comets. The year - 1978.

got my first car in 71, 55 ford crown, I was a big ford guy and mavericks/comets were what ford was using in prostock, that started it, in 92 my daughter turned 16 and wanted a classic mustang, I suggested a grabber, she or my wife had never heard of one so I showed them pictures, even back then they were hard to find, finally found one in the paper, 72 grabber, new paint, tires ,carpet, exhaust, pioneer sterio, everything worked,ac,auto,ps for 1800.00, daughter named it on the test drive! When she went off to college she got a new 95 ranger xlt sc and I inherited back the mav!

Im young and i wanted something cheap and i found a maverick. Its had a 302 so it is loud and fast. Also its not your typical mustang or camaro that every kid has.

wow, these are all very cool stories. Someone(not it!) should compile them - like a book of poems or something.

When I was 15 years old our next door neighbor, Karen had a new '72 Grabber green Maverick Grabber with a 6 cyl automatic. She paid me to wash her car once a week and polish it twice a year. When I got my license, she let me take it to the car wash. I loved the car! I was in the market for a new car in '74 so you know it would be a Maverick Grabber. Red and black with a V8. I took care of Karens car until 1977. In 1972 there was a Maverick Grabber, '69 Mustang convertable, a '70 Mach 1, a '69 Chevelle SS 396, a 69 Mustang coupe, a '69 "XL" All these nice cars just on our block!!

well since my first four door previously belonged to my grandmother and my grandparents on the other side owned one also (that grandfather was a mechanic who worked for all three of the big three and settled on ford for reliability ;P ) so i pretty much was raised to love them. riding in my uncles red 70 that liked to whip on the ever popular smokey and the bandit trans ams (yes im in that age group) helped also. but when i was given the four door it reinforced my love. i have had other cars but the mavs are my fav by far for ride, looks, and getting it on! hehe

I actually went to the lot to buy a '63 Impala I saw the day before, but they had just sold it earlier in the day. Saw the Mav and had to have it. Now I'm glad things worked out the way they did.

1972 mercury comet with a maverick front end. It has a 1992 5.0 motor in it.
I wanted a mustang real bad for my first car. My dad came home from work one day and said he found me a car. I asked what i was and he said 70 Maverick. I said hell no and he said lets just go look. Well we ate and then rode to look at it. It was green had cragers all around grabber hood and spoiler on the back. The guy let me drive it down the road. He said punch it the car went side ways and the rest is history. I had many firsts in that car. Loved them every since. It took me 20yrs to get another one. I hope never to sell this one. O and i no i technically dont have a maverick its a comet but it does have a maverick front end...................lol

Funny you should mention the "XL". At the Lake Mirror show in Lakeland last year, there was a really cherry '69 "XL" with a 429/4spd. What a car!! Big boat, yes, but all muscle! I had never seen one before. He only brought it out to a few local shows a year. Bad to the Bone!!

    Why Mavrick

I built mine to have something to do in retirement.

Now that it is finished, I do not like to drive it, it is so crude, so it will probably just rot down in my shed.
